The Dangers Of Falling & Being In Love

I’m sure you’ve been in at least one relationship where the word love was used. You believed wholeheartedly you were with the love of your life and deeply in love with them. Then, judgement day came and you divorced, separated or broke up. Even though you might have gotten over the pain, sometimes you ask yourself the question that still lingers years later; “Where did we go wrong......we were in love…….”. Now I know there are various reasons why many couples break up; infidelity, lying, abusive relationship, lack of communication etc. But, ask yourself this question, should I be falling in love with my partner? Well, let me give you the answer so you don’t hurt your head……NO, you should not be falling in love with your partner. You might want to pose the question; "Why shouldn’t I fall in love? Isn’t that what people do?" You’re absolutely correct, that is what people do and you see the current state of relationships. Whether it’s someone you personally know or society as a whole, successful relationships are at an all time low. Marriage rates are down, divorce rates are high, many single parent homes. Now I do apologize for that long definition but, we must examine this word fall. Based on the definition of fall, it is not a good thing to fall. Some may say it’s just a figure of speech but you can continue to believe that if you choose to do so. One might say it’s just semantics, it means the same thing. I respectfully disagree. You KNOW what fall means and by you agreeing that you fell in love, you’re subconsciously telling yourself that all will be well forever because my partner will never hurt me, they are IN LOVE with me. This is where many go wrong and suffer great pains. Those who have fell and were in love with their partner, when they experience a break up, the magnitude of the pain is crippling. You never thought they would do that to you. You trusted them. You were IN LOVE with them. They were IN LOVE with you. Then you'll hear things of this nature; " I love you, i'm just not in love with you." Like, what does that even mean? Some will have the mentality that “If I can’t be with you, life isn’t worth living” or “If I can’t be with you, nobody can be with you”. Unfortunately, this line of thinking is very dangerous and results in people committing suicide or murder. Here in the land of the living, life form changes. There is no such thing as one staying the same, it's literally impossible. Whether physically, every day you become older or spiritually, the way you think or operate will have slight changes. I will say from the spiritual aspect, the change can be so minute that you may not even realize you changed. THE ONLY ONE YOU SHOULD FALL AND BE IN LOVE WITH IS THE MOST HIGH ALMIGHTY GOD.

Malachi 3:6; “For I am the Lord, I change not;”. Unlike mankind, God does not change so you don’t have to worry about him leaving you. As a matter of fact, the closer to get to him, the closer he will get to you; James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”

In the book of James, we are actually instructed to fall for God: James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Let’s grab the definition for humble yourselves:

Humble Yourselves G5013

From G5011; to depress; figuratively to humiliate (in condition or heart): - abase, bring low, humble (self).

G5011

Of uncertain derivation; depressed, that is, (figuratively) humiliated (in circumstances or disposition): - base, cast down, humble, of low degree (estate), lowly.

When you fall for God, he will raise you up. When you draw closer to God, he will come closer to you. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t love your spouse, please understand what I'm saying here, I’m speaking about the idea or concept of you falling in love or being in love with them. Your spouse is not The Most High God. Unlike a relationship between a man and woman, where a spouse can change, God will never change his love he has for you. Please keep this in mind.
